As you would expect, the training programmes for Officer Cadets are high-quality and employment-focussed, ensuring a smooth transition to a junior officer role upon gaining first professional certification.
As an island nation, it is critical for the UK’s imports and exports that we have capable and efficient maritime services to ensure that 95% of our trade continues to flow and our supply lines are secured.
The port of Southampton alone handles over 14 million tonnes of cargo each year, supporting 15,000 jobs and contributing £1 billion to the UK economy. It handles over 1.5 million containers each year, along with 820,000 vehicles and 1.7 million passengers on cruise ships and ferries. In addition, the nearby Fawley refinery is the largest in the country, handling 22 million tons of crude oil annually and providing 20 per cent of the nation’s capacity.
With a increasing worldwide shortage of certificated ship’s officers, this is an exceptional time to be joining the maritime industries, as there are excellent prospects for early career progression to higher ranks
