The Maritime London Officer Cadet Scholarship charity (MLOCS) provides the funds to enable young people to undertake the three years of training required to become a Merchant Navy officer. MLOCS provides sponsorship for the officers of tomorrow, thereby creating safer ships and cleaner seas.
MLOCS cadets follow a Deck (Navigation), Marine Engineer or Electro-Technical (ETO) professional pathway. To date, MLOCS has raised more than £3m in support of cadet training.
In 1992 a small group of Lloyd’s underwriters established the Lloyd’s Officer Cadet Scholarship as a registered charity, in order to support the training of UK-based merchant navy officers.
In 2002, the scheme was renamed the Maritime London Officer Cadet Scholarship to reflect the contribution to funding of the Scholarships made by the wider maritime services industry. MLOCS is also supported by donors who identify with the charity’s objectives but do not sponsor a particular cadet.
MLOCS Cadets additionally benefit from their involvement, through the sponsors and the MLOCS trustees, with a wide range of experience in the maritime services sector generally and so enhancing future job opportunities.

For further information about Maritime London or MLOCS, please see their respective web pages.
We are currently taking applications for MLOCS’s cadet intakes in September and January each year.
Applicants must be EEA nationals and resident in the UK for a year prior to starting training.
Once you are ready to apply for a cadetship, please email your application letter and Curriculum Vitae (CV) to us at [email protected], stating that you are interested in an MLOCS cadetship and confirming your preferred training discipline (i.e. Deck Cadetship, Engineer Cadetship or ETO Cadetship).
Over a three-year training period, Officer Cadets will follow academic programmes at a designated college for their shore-based training elements, while undertaking the required sea service and professional training aboard various types of vessel.
