IMarEST provides free membership for Officer Cadets for the duration of their cadetships under its Student Membership category (SIMarEST), with an option to then upgrade to Associate Membership (AMIMarEST).
The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) is a registered charity and an international professional body and learned society for all marine professionals. It is also a nominated and licensed body of the Engineering Council (UK), a member of the Science Council and has links with maritime organisations worldwide.
IMarEST promotes the scientific development of marine engineering, science and technology, providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas and practices and upholding the status, standards and knowledge of marine professionals worldwide.
Membership provides a range of benefits and services tailored to each grade, designed to support professional development, raise individual profiles, provide members with access to relevant information and tools, as well as connections with other members around the world.
Members of the Institute are also able to join its Branches, which have members from across 120 countries and provide accessible local activities such as technical lectures, conferences, meetings, and networking events.

Upon successful completion of an Officer Cadetship and achievement of the associated academic qualifications, former cadets may also be eligible to apply for IMarEST’s five year Career Development Pathway (AIMarEST), paying a reduced fee for five years while benefitting from Associate Membership .
