Just Be Maritime is delighted to announce that five Officer Cadets have won annual awards at UK nautical colleges during their recent graduation ceremonies.
Officer Cadet Elspeth Muir is sponsored by Trinity House, and deservedly won the Engineer Cadet of the Year award at Warsash Maritime School for performing to the highest standard throughout the duration of her cadetship and whose overall attainment, including both theoretical and practical elements, is recognised by the school’s staff as being the most excellent amongst her peers. Elspeth is pictured receiving her award from Kunal Anand, Director of Warsash Maritime School.
Officer Cadet Lucy Gilbert is sponsored by Trinity House and the Hill Robinson Group, and was awarded The John Milner Prize for Navigation at Warsash Maritime School. This annual Navigation award is sponsored by The Royal Institute of Navigation, and is presented to the student who has demonstrated the best overall performance in navigation during their Merchant Navy Cadetship. The trophy is a mounted Vertical Force Meter which was donated by Captain Milner.
Officer Cadet Michael Hawkins is also sponsored by Trinity House, and was awarded The Isambard Brunel Engineering Cup at Warsash Maritime School. This trophy is awarded annually by the School to the Engineering student who has best contributed to the ideal: To promote excellence in engineering practice.
Officer Cadet Zac Connell is sponsored by Zodiac Maritime, and was awarded the Northern Lighthouse Board Prize for Engineering Cadet of the Year at City of Glasgow College. This award recognises outstanding academic excellence, hard work, and dedication demonstrated by maritime engineering students throughout their cadetship.
Officer Cadet Luca Cripps is sponsored by Trinity House too, and received The Salvesen Trust Fund Prize at City of Glasgow College. This prize was established in 1942 and is awarded to exceptional students graduating from the college’s Faculty of Nautical and STEM.
