The Agri-Foods and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and the Corporation of Trinity House have now established a training partnership, whereby Officer Cadets supported under Trinity House’s Merchant Navy Scholarship Scheme (MNSS) will be provided with training berths aboard AFBI’s marine research vessel, Corystes.
AFBI is a multi-disciplinary scientific institute offering world class scientific services to a range of stakeholders, while the Corystes provides AFBI with a versatile platform from which a wide range of fisheries and marine environmental research is undertaken.
On behalf of Trinity House, Just Be Maritime Ltd (JBM) has now arranged for the first MNSS cadet to join the vessel for a training deployment.
During their time aboard, Officer Cadets will be undertaking a range of activities and tasks as part of completing their MNTB Training Record Books, including vessel familiarisation, maintenance work and watchkeeping duties.
Stuart Benge, Operations Director for Just Be Maritime, said, “This is a great opportunity for Trinity House’s cadets to gain specialist research and seagoing experience aboard the Corystes.”
